Hi. My name is Hong but you can call me Anne or Meow.

I was born & raised on the outskirts of Saigon where pursuing art was seen as a luxury. From an early age, I dreamed of becoming a filmmaker but I had no idea where to begin.

In 2013, after failing the entrance exam to a prestigious film school in Saigon, I spent a year studying English to enter Bangkok University as a Computer Graphics major, then another year learning Thai before transferring into the Film program.

In 2025, I decided to return to Vietnam after spending a decade studying & working in Thailand. I came back to where my earliest dreams of becoming a filmmaker began, hoping to reconnect with the stories that truly move me in the place I call home.

My greatest aspiration is to seek the truth of life & tell the stories that stay with me through the lens of my own lived experience. I view cinema as a powerful storytelling medium & love experimenting with simple & childlike concepts to evoke the audience’s repressed thoughts & emotions. For me, cinema must remain rooted in life, revealing the quiet beauty & overlooked truths hidden in ordinary moments.

I’m deeply drawn to introspective stories, touched by melancholy, about repressed emotions & feelings too difficult to express. I believe in making films with kindness. In a world filled with sorrow & injustice, I hope the films I make are more than acts of confession. I hope my work can embrace people with compassion, offer them comfort & create meaningful changes.
